Oxford, Miss. – As recruitment week ends, a new chapter begins for all of the new members of the Greek community here on campus. However, some of these new pledges are unaware of the potential challenge they will face, that is why next week all of the new recruits will gather in the Ford Center to hear Will Keim speak.
Keim is a professional speaker and a graduate of Oregon State University; he has spoken to over 2,000,000 students at hundreds of campuses nationwide. Keim specializes in speaking to students about joining the Greek community. Keim’s speeches cover everything from alcohol abuse to fraternity hazing.
Keim received a PHD from Oregon State, as well as a BA and MA at the University of the Pacific. He was won many awards including the Outstanding Interfraternalism award and the Outstanding Young Man of America award. He is a member of the Order of Omega and was a member of the Delta Upsilon fraternity.
Not only is Keim coming to speak to the new recruits, but he will also be meeting with the academic chairs, presidents, and pledge trainers of every fraternity on campus. “He has a lot of experience in giving useful advice to college men and women,” said Diego Garcia. “I love the lessons he will teach to the men and women of our Greek system.” Garcia is the Vice President of Public Relations for the Inter Fraternity Council here at the University of Mississippi.
“I am very excited for his visit,” said Garcia. “I have heard Dr. Keim speak before, but I’m sure he will give a great talk yet again.” Garcia is a junior here on campus, and has heard Keim speak here before. Keim came in 2010 to speak to the incoming class about the same issue. Justin Griffin, a junior here at Ole Miss as well as a member of a Greek organization, heard him speak two years ago. “I remember hearing him speak my freshman year,” said Griffin. “He was a great speaker.”
Griffin went on to say that he ‘really thinks Keim will make an impact on the freshman class.’ “Keim has such a deep background with communications and Greek life that he will be very beneficial to all of these freshman who have no idea what they are getting into,” said Griffin. Keim will be speaking next Wednesday and Thursday in the Ford Center.
